Description:  DSPs:  Making a Difference that Really Matters!

The purpose of this workshop is to cultivate a deeper understanding about what constitutes good direct support.  Participants will be encouraged to contemplate the most profound voids in the lives of the people they support and ways that their work can have the greatest positive impact.  The traditional DSP role of “caregiver” will be challenged in favor of a role that is likely to result in more valued outcomes.

Presenter:  Hope Leet Dittmeier is the founder and Executive Director of Realizations, a small organization in Louisville, KY.  Realizations’ mission statement is “Partnering with people with disabilities to plan, create and sustain custom supports that promote typical, socially valued lifestyles.”  Prior to her work at Realizations, Hope had over 20 years of experience in a variety of roles in human service, including direct support, administration, program development, family support, person-centered planning facilitation, and training and consultation, She has also learned a great deal about good support and possibilities as the sister-in-law of a woman with intellectual disabilities who continues to live a pretty typical lifestyle
