Description:   A+ Assessment: The Direct Support Professionals’ Manual to Medical Care

How does the direct support professional ensure the client is receiving the best care possible?

 This presentation will assist the direct support professional to recognize and understand co-

occurring medical conditions within the intellectual and developmentally disabled population

such as heart disease, diabetes, renal failure, seizure disorders, dementia, psychological

disturbances and additional health care concerns. Information will be provided to assist with

effective communication to the attending physician and family.


Presenter:  Nathanial Meade, R.N., B.S.B.A.,

Nathanial has dedicated the past seventeen years to serving residents and families in the long

term care setting. Mr. Meade is actively serving as the Director of Health Services for Cedar Lake

Lodge, a private organization for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. In

addition, Mr. Meade serves as the Vice President for the Kentucky Developmental Disability

Nurses’ Association. He works closely with both medically fragile and behaviorally challenged

residents. Mr. Meade has taught Licensed Practical Nurses and served on the Board of Advisors

for Spencerian College and Jefferson Community College. Mr. Meade specializes in areas such as

providing quality medical services and customer relations to residents and families. He

demonstrates innovative medical and behavioral services and incorporates the medical insight of

today. Mr. Meade has provided educational offerings to all levels of health care workers and is

capable of connecting at all levels.
